Harnessing Tourism

The stunning scenery, cultural history and the health benefits associated with the salts and mud have turned the Dead Sea Eastern shore into a tourist destination. Metropolitan Workshop were commissioned to generate a development plan to harness the demand for 25,000 hotel rooms. Our concerns were wider that this commercial imperative and so we set out a framework to provide employment and education for local people and to discover a bespoke solution for the challenges posed by Jordan’s limited energy and water resources. The region should become the Dead Sea Reserve and be administered by an agency with a charter to enhance this world heritage biosphere.
