BBC Broadcasting House, London

Communicating Ideas

In 2001 Neil Deely and Richard MacCormac led the competition team for the redevelopment of Broadcasting House for the BBC.

The key ideas for the building centred around improving public access to the organization, improving departmental relationships to deliver Greg Dyke’s ‘One BBC’ vision and provide a new backdrop for All Souls’ Church.

The scheme comprised 25,000 m2 new broadcasting floor space incorporating a newsroom of over 4500 m2. This dealing floor like space was position at the heart of the building at lower ground floor level where all departments could over look it.

The production space was arranged in three conventional 18m deep floor plates connected to vertical circulation, Broadcasting House and Egton House site via broad thoroughfares at every level. These new ‘social’ spaces provide departments with the opportunity to personalized thresholds and shared meeting room facilities .
