Mews House, London

In Context

This project for a private client is located within a Camden conservation area on a small, well preserved and popular Mews. Metropolitan Workshop worked closely with the client to establish an arrangement of accommodation that can configure and adapt to meet the clients changing needs.

The project consists of 2studio flats, a 2bed apartment, a 3storey house and a commercial unit. The scheme will be constructed primarily from reclaimed stock brick and timber shingles supported by a hybrid structural system of loadbearing masonry and proprietary cross-laminated structural timber panels.

It is to be designed to PassivHaus standards - a European construction standard for residential buildings which have excellent comfort conditions in both winter and summer. Dwellings which meet PassivHaus standards typically achieve an energy saving of 90% compared to existing housing.
Access to all units is provided via a south facing landscaped courtyard area which provides a communal meeting space for the residents.
