Doha Masterplan, Qatar

The Dynamic Oasis of the Gulf

Metropolitan Workshop was invited to take part in this exciting competition by the Norplan group, With NSW Arkitekter & Planleggere as the lead architect.

The competition brief asked that the population of the city of Doha is increased from 500,000 inhabitants to around 2 million over the next 15-20 years. The challenge has been to create a sustainable city for the future. Our team have put forward a proposal for green links tying together the city and providing much needed recreational facilities, a top notch new public transport network, and some major infrastructural changes to remove traffic from central Doha and thus freeing up the waterfront.

The center piece of the proposal is a large new park, comparable to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. The park acts as a showcase for Sport, Leisure, Culture, and Health Tourism together with a new governmental complex. The park will act as a green oasis within the country and become a symbol for the new and dynamic city.
