Belmayne Neighbourhood Square

New Neighbourhood Centre

Belmayne Neighbourhood Square forms part of the 200ha masterplan of Belmayne, Balgriffin, situated in the North Fringe of Dublin city.

The Neighbourhood Square sits at the centre of this development providing local amenities of library, school creche and neighbourhood retail, becoming a key public space, a local hub and focus for the wider community.

The role of the practice on the project involved the re-alignment of the Square, the preparation of an urban design framework for the Square and adjacent buildings, and the design of two prominent residential buildings fronting the Square.

These courtyard residential buildings include restaurants, commercial and enterprise units, a creche and 284 apartments. To reflect the scale and importance of the Neighbourhood Square the buildings are to be constructed with a carefully articulated brick ‘exo-skeleton’ that reveals and conceals a delicate, intimate inner plane of composite timber panels.
